Within a month after release, the Samsung Galaxy S4 managed to cross the 10 million channel sales mark. And just after two months of release, the Galaxy S4 has reached the 20 million channel sales milestone.

If you are wondering why we are using the term ‘channel sales’ instead of just ‘sales,’ the reason is because of the difference between the two terms. Yes, we agree that the Galaxy S4 is impressive, but if you compare it with the Apple iPhone 5 sales, then the Galaxy S4 might still not be the winner. Channel sales means that ‘the handset has been shipped to the retailer,’ after which the retailer/dealer will then sell it to actual consumers.
So now if you try to compare Galaxy S4 sales to the iPhone 5, you wil know the difference. Apple sold 5 million units of iPhone 5 in the first weekend of sales back in September 2012, and 37 million iPhonesoverall in the second quarter of 2013. The major difference is that these figures aren’t channel sales, they are ‘direct sales’ or ‘consumer sales.’ The Samsung Galaxy S4 has definitely been the best selling smartphone for the company, but it still has a long way to go before it can match the iPhone 5.

Out of the two milestones (10 million and 20 million), Samsung has already confirmed the 10 million mark long time back. But we still haven’t heard the company talk about the 20 million mark. But the Korean source said that Samsung is preparing for a press release and press conference in order to officially announce this new achievement.
